Jealousy! Inequality! It’s unfair!
We are born into an unfair world – that’s just the way it is. Be it with a silver spoon or a plastic one, we are fed jealousy bite-by-bite. We are made to compete. To dream the dreams of our parents. To learn the violin.
Our mother’s milk tells us our future and we refuse it! Because at one point our eyes are opened. We see someone better than us! The jealousy we are told to repress breaks the dam and we rebel. Uncaring, unashamed – in society where the greatest honor is to be honorable, in a world where a samurai-like code of ethics is expected while dealing us a hand fit only for the yakuza. And so the path crumbles beneath our parents and our own feet. Once we are back up life has passed us by and nothing has changed.
Maybe a trace of our attempts is left behind.
Priit Pärn’s “Rising Fiddlers” was supposed to be animated and is now instead turning into a VAT production. Pärn has said that once the production hits the stage, it might just get animated as well.
Live soundscapes are produced by Kristjan Kallas on percussion.
Premiere: September 11th 2025 at the Sakala 3 Teatrimaja Great Hall
The production has no spoken text and is therefore suitable for non-Estonian speakers.
