A tale of teacher and pupil
School and home and back again – how very dreary. Except for when there’s constant conflict on both fronts. Teacher Juuli and student Kris both dream of a simpler, smoother way of life – Kris wants to graduate and Juuli wants to feel joy from her work again.
But then a rage-fueled episode bursts both of their dreams of simple solutions.
German author Lutz Hübner gained international renown through his satirical yet relatable youth productions. Since 2001 he has written dramatic texts with wife Sarah Nemitz, together with whom, their focus has shifted from the children to the parents, from students to teachers. Their greatest collaboration to date, “Müller must leave!”, was brought to life on VAT Theatre stages more than 100 times.
“Rage” was written by the duo in 2007 and yet it resonates especially clearly with what is happening on the Estonian educational landscape today. Young teachers are about as hard to find as a four-leaf clover. What makes today’s schools so complex? How do you protect and motivate both the teachers and the pupils?
Translation of the production was supported by the Goethe Institute.
