Project Dictator: Or ‘Why Democracy is Overrated and I Don’t Miss It At All’

Political satire

An actor wrote a two-man show which solves all of our problems. All we need to do is to produce it and make the world an endlessly endearing place. The second actor seems to be fed up with being the second actor, of being fed lines – he just wants to be free.

Perhaps he instead wants to be the first, the author, the one to tell everyone what to do, when to start, when to call the music and what costumes to wear.

Which is why the other actor’s coup ruins the the first’s coup-de-grace. The curtain does not fall, however. The show is not over. The actors decide to fight it out in the midst of the failed play’s set decoration, right there, in front of the audience. The viewers have no other choice but to stifle their laughs and see how the cockfight between these two idiots turns out.

“Dictator a.k.a. why democracy is overrated and I do not miss it at all “ is Triin Brigitta Heidov’s graduating work at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, which satirically dissects the big questions of democracy and dictatorship.
